Hi,
In reference to UW-51(b) says,.."For material Thickness in Excess of 1 Inch, The Concurrence of the User shall be Obtained."
Concurrence to What????
Could anybody explain? I need to know ASAP.
Thanks in advance

RE: ASME VIII DIV1 - UW-51(b)

The plate thickness dictates to some extent the most suitable testing method;- above the 1" thickness, the RT might not be accurate enough, then the UT should be more appropriate. However, the option of UT or RT or combination of these should be acceptable to the Client also, not only to the manufacturer. Particularly the shonky manufacturers are interested in minimizing the inspection requirements, to limit the potential expensive repairs. This conflict of intersts is somehow regulated by the above sentence in the Code.
OK, there are a lot more details related to this issue, but space is limited and otehrs may wish to add their own reply.
cheers,

RE: ASME VIII DIV1 - UW-51(b)

USER CONCURRENCE is required if you decide to use UT as NDE method instead of RT for inspecting the repair.  The MFG must also UT the repair area, prior to making repair, to locate and confirm to the sastifaction of the AI.
