Can I mate subassy components in an assy?

Can I mate subassy components in an assy?

(OP)
I have several components in a subassy that are not constrained.    When I put the subassy into the top level assy, I want to move the components independently to their correct positions.  I can move them, but I can't mate them to features in the top level assy.  Is there a way to do this?

(The components are plumbing fittings, and I want to mate them to pumps, etc. in the top level, but I want all the fittings in a separate subassy for manufacturing)

Thanks

V

RE: Can I mate subassy components in an assy?

Sounds like you want to set your subassembly to be flexible. Be careful with this feature if and when you use it. Ever since SW 2007 SP 0 the subassemblies no longer update changes made in the top level assembly such as position or configuration, in their assembly. You'll make changes in the top level assembly, open the sub in its own window, and find that nothing has changed. We notified SW of this problem almost as soon as we found it, back around SW 2007 SP 2, but apparently there weren't enough hits on this SP to warrant fixing it. Ever.
