Cut away part of component in drawing view

Cut away part of component in drawing view

Cut away part of component in drawing view

(OP)
Hi,

I'm trying to cut away a corner of a component in one of my drawing views in order to show what is underneath.  I can't find a command that sounds like it does this but I'm sure there must be one.

Does someone have any suggestions?

If you're not able to get where you need to go with a normal section view in the drawing environment, then I would suggest that you create a section view in the part and import it into the drawing.

Broken-out section.

Handleman,

Thanks. I found the command staring me in the face.

I haven't gotten it to work yet though. I tried creating a closed spline and then picking the component that I don't want to show. Then I've tried several depths but none seem to make a difference.

When I've finished, the broken-out section shows in the feature manager but not in the view.

Have you run into this?

Which SW version and SP?

Which graphics card and driver?

Did you try Ctrl Q to force rebuild?

cheers

Are you trying to do a broken out section on an isometric view?  When deciding your depth, SolidWorks looks at the most extreme location as the "zero" depth.  You may need to go "into the page" significantly further than you would at first think before you penetrate your part in the location you desire.

Example, you want a broken out section of the rear wheel/tire of a typical bicycle (side view).  You first think, you would set the depth to approx 1/2" because that will go half way through the wheel.  But you forget that the handlebars are "coming out of the page" about 12".  You need to set your depth to 12.5" to get what you desire.

Hope that make sense... try deeper distances.

I didn't want to admit that I was stuck in 2007 SP2 Limbo with no possiblility of upgrade at this chicken outfit.

Thanks, the depth was the problem. I was trying to keep it small.  I'm actually in a plan view.
