twinning t-stats
twinning t-stats
(OP)
i have a request to incorpate 2 digital thermostats in separate locations with one central heating and air conditioning unit, this is a single building that has been split into two sections. each tenate works different shifts so i don't believe there will be tempature issues, is there a way to allow each tenate to operation the equipment without shorting out any controls?
thanks you in advance

RE: twinning t-stats
There are a lot of issues with that. Most furnace equipment wants to see closed relays on specific lines to initiate any particular mode.
This means you can't parallel these signals because the stat closing that particular set of contacts forces control. This means for example one stat can call for cooling and the other then has no say in cooling. Not something the tenants will be liking.
This means the stats must both alter whenever either is one is adjusted. This means one is THE stat and the other must be a remote user interface for the controlling stat.
You need to find a stat that has a remote user interface option.
Let me know if you do please..

It would only be a matter of time before one side decides they are too hot. They turn on the A/C. The other side decides they are too cold. They turn up the temp. No improvement. Turn it up some more.. Eventually you will have two relays closed. A/C and Heat.
Some furnace systems would allow this. It could get real expensive fast.
