Can SW2007 open the file whose fomat is .stp?

Can SW2007 open the file whose fomat is .stp?

Can SW2007 open the file whose fomat is .stp?

(OP)
What's wrong with that?
When I open some files, alarm happens as follows:

Microsoft visival C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Fifles\Solidworks\Sldworks.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an anusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

So,Who knows this? Thanks for help!

RE: Can SW2007 open the file whose fomat is .stp?

SolidWorks is able to open a .step file.  A file extension of .stp  might be a form of step file from Catia.  I would try to rename the file extension and try to open it.

As far at the error you are getting, I'd contact my reseller.  You might also need to reinstall SolidWorks as it's giving you a C++ error.

.stp or .step are the same thing.  Neutral data translation files, similar to .igs or .iges file.

Is it all .stp files or just a few?

Can you create a simple cube in SWX and Save Copy As STEP (*.stp)?
Can you read that file back in?

Yes, you can Save As to step or iges, plus a bunch of other file formats.  Then you can Open them back up in SolidWorks.

Take a look at all the options in the drop downs for file types when opening and saving files in SolidWorks.

You guys need to be adventurous and explore all the options in all the windows that are presented when doing things in SolidWorks.  Push all the buttons/tabs and see what they do....  smile

Anna, I think rollupswx was directing his comments towards  the OP. Its a nice simple test to make sure there is nothing wrong with the installed version of SW.

MadMango,

Ahhh.... Yes, you are probably right.

I think huipain may have an install issue.  I am thinking I remember some folks talking about this issue over on the SolidWorks forums at www.solidworks.com.  A trip through the knowledge base over there may yeild some results.

Would also help if we knew what version and SP the OP is using.

RE: Can SW2007 open the file whose fomat is .stp?

The usual test in any CAD program when the user is having trouble opening a unknown or 3rd party neutral file format is to first make sure the CAD program will create and open a simple cube or cylinder in that format.

If it won't there is no point in fooling with the unkown or 3rd party neutral until the problem is solved with the known data.

RE: Can SW2007 open the file whose fomat is .stp?

Try right-clicking on the file and open with Notepad.  In the header of the file it should tell you where the file came from (CAD System and version).  At least this wil give you an idea of how much of a headache you are going to have.  This is all barring that you don't have an install issue.

Thanks,
RyanC
