Adjustable Assemblies inheriting Adjustable Part Variables?

Adjustable Assemblies inheriting Adjustable Part Variables?

Adjustable Assemblies inheriting Adjustable Part Variables?

(OP)
Here's another problem I've come up with.

Let's say I want to create a ladder and then extract a BOM. I create an assembly with all the different parts needed (support, pegs, wall braces, etc). Now let's say I make these parts adjustable, so I can create a 3 meter ladder or a 4 meter one, pattern the pegs & wall braces, etc.

What if once my layout is done, I want to repeat this ladder assembly multiple times with different part variables. How can this be done?

Thanks!

RE: Adjustable Assemblies inheriting Adjustable Part Variables?

Hi Martin,
Wouldn't you use families of part/assemblies for this ?
If you are on V20 you can then tabulate them.

Beachcomber,

my first impression was the same as yours, but my understanding is that families of assemblies are used in the case of a same piece in different positions.

For example, having two identical hydraulic cylinders, one open at 25% and the other at 74%, could be done with families of assemblies. Following this example, what I am trying to do is place two different size hydraulic cylinders, based on the same core parts, but with the size variables adjustable.

From what I've learned since my first post, this would require the creation of a copy of the assembly (non-associative) wich I could then change as I please. This is not ideal, as the solution I was looking for had the ease of use of an adjustable part... plug it in an assembly, set the variables in the nice little pop-up box, and voilà! Now I would need to dig inside the adjustable variables of all the pieces.

Martin

There is two side of Family of assemblies, the first one is exactly as you described such as different position of the same parts, but the other one is a lot more permissive, you can have different position of parts, but also replace parts with others, control variables and such. When you first want to make an assembly into a family you have a popup asking you what type you want to use.

I hope it helps

Patrick
