SA 179 Silicium Content

SA 179 Silicium Content

SA 179 Silicium Content

(OP)
Hi,
for a SA 179 material, our Client has requested a minimum content of Silicium of 0.15%. According with the mentioned specification, no Silicium is reported as mandatory but our doubt is due to the paragraph 8.2 which states "suppliying an alloy grade that specifically requires the addition of any element other than those listed in 8.1 is NOT PERMITTED". If it is requested this content, this material would not be certified by ASME.
Thanks
Peter

RE: SA 179 Silicium Content

Peter113;
If you mean silicon, in this case it is an unspecified, intentionally added element required by the purchaser to produce desired results and is not intended to change the alloy Grade, as is the reference in 8.2 of SA 179. I would suggest you carefully review ASME SA 450 and 751.
