MS OFFICE FILES ON SOLID WORKS PDM

MS OFFICE FILES ON SOLID WORKS PDM

MS OFFICE FILES ON SOLID WORKS PDM

(OP)
We are using SolidWorks PDM to control our SolidWorks files. It works relatively well.  We use custom fields like REV, DCR, STATUS, DESCRIPTION, etc that are used in the drawing blocks and also as descriptors on PDM.

My question is. . . . If I wanted to also control MS Office files using the PDM Vault (which is possible), how can this be done?

I know how to create custom fields on office documents.  The problem is that I am naming them the same as in the drawings and they don't seem to change when I check the document into the vault.

My goal is to display the status of the document as a watermark, the revision, document number, and the DCR as part of the header.

Anyone?

No answers yet from Solidworks.  Will let all of you know if I have a solution.

RE: MS OFFICE FILES ON SOLID WORKS PDM

A file name isn't 100% the same if the extensions are different.  Try one in your PDM and see what happens.

RE: MS OFFICE FILES ON SOLID WORKS PDM

You should be able to add any type of file to the PDMW. You can also add Office files to the Design Binder in the SolidWorks file.

RE: MS OFFICE FILES ON SOLID WORKS PDM

You can put any file into PDM Works.
I would like to see SolidWorks Corp put some type of property on the document that would follow the Property in PDM Works.
