Joining Body Features?
Joining Body Features?
(OP)
I have a model imported into solid edge that originally came from solidworks. The part is now a "dumb" solid with no geometry. I need to alter the part and normally this wouldn't be a problem except that there isn't a flat surface on it. What I want to do is keep the original feature exactly as it is and add a block to the back of it. The problem is that the back is some strange curve and although I can create my new feature I can't seem to join the 2 of them without some gaps appearing between the "dumb" part and my new feature. How can I fill those gaps? I've attached a file for reference.
Thanks
Thanks

RE: Joining Body Features?
what about 'Thicken'? Choose 'Single' from the pulldown and
select the back faces, define the extent and direction.
Ok there is something to adjust afterwards but the major
work should be OK.
Also possible: use the Modify --> 'Move Faces' function to
'pull out' the faces in question. Other function of this
family might be used in addition.

RE: Joining Body Features?
Have a look at this file - it's V20 hope that's OK.
It may not be exactly as you want it, but it shows a method.
Basically I created the sketch away from the back of the existing body, then used surfaces to create the additional material. These were then stitched together and booleaned onto the body

RE: Joining Body Features?
I will try the process you mentioned but I can't open V20 files. We haven't kept our subscription up to date so I'm limited to V19. I will give it a shot though, any new approach is better than me sitting still. Thanks for your help.
RE: Joining Body Features?
attached find two solutions. All features must be unsuppressed
One solution follows rougly BC's approach the other one is
using the method I've suggested.

RE: Joining Body Features?
not that I've solved your problem of squaring the bottom
just 'compressed' the feature tree a bit
