Idiots guide to PDMworks

Idiots guide to PDMworks

Idiots guide to PDMworks

(OP)
I have the same question that this guy asked on the solidworks forum:
https://forum.solidworks.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=15&threadid=10246&enterthread=y
which asks:

Quote (Matthew Lennard):

Is there an idiots guide to PDMworks?

I'm looking to set up PDMworks.

I have read the PDMworks rules to live by and searched the help files, but I have far more questions than that covers.

Does anyone know of something like this?

maybe not a book but a document that someone has put together for inner company that could share with the community.

RE: Idiots guide to PDMworks

We just had PDMWorks Workgroup training in-house here, and were very dissatisfied. It entailed client and administrator training. Everyone found it very confusing. I'm not pinning the confusing on the VAR, but SW for having convoluted manual. One of the things that drove me nuts was.....login under this ID......now logout and login under this ID.........do this......now logout, and login under the admin....create a life cycle...now logout and login into the original ID.  I also asked if the VAR could use our vault as a training aid, and they declined and said they have to follow the book which makes sense, but then again it doesn't. My intent for the users is to see our drawings, parts, and assemblies under specific project folders and the lifecycles we created for our company.

RE: Idiots guide to PDMworks

Colin,

Have you left a comment on my blog about this?  I'm going to be notifying SW of my blog entry about manuals and the community response soon.  Both Matt Lombard and I have recently written about this topic.

In fact, to anyone, if you have an opinion about this, please left a comment their.

I had admin training separate from the users. The users should not have to go thru the admin training. They will not use it and will not remember it.

RE: Idiots guide to PDMworks

Training was half day for the clients, and half day for admin's. That's why there was confusion with the clients logging in as administrators'. They asked why they had to do this when there not admin's. I think it's SW intension to show everyone how the whole system works/functions.
