Rename parts

(OP)
hej everyone

I have a large assembly with a lot of parts in it.

I want to rename all the files in the following manner :

sb-1.par
sb-2.par
sb-3.par

and so on!

How do I do that without having to do it one by one?
I have revision manager but it does not look like it is possible to do it in that program.
Is there perhaps a small utillity for things like this??

RE: Rename parts

Not that I know of that works in the way I think you need.

Might be possibly to do somehting in basic or XML but that's beyond me.

I think similar came up a few weeks ago, take a look.

KENAT, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...

RE: Rename parts

I'll concur.  Manually changing it in RevMan is the only way short of writing your own application.

Perhaps Jason Newell or Barham Software have already written something like this.

RE: Rename parts

How are the files named at the moment ?
You may be able to use the Edit/Replace function in Rev Manager to do some of the work - just leaving you to add the 1,2,3,4 etc

Hej beachcomber

The files are named with a combination of numbers and letters, the number is the actual part number and the letters are a short description of the part.

Example : 194975-P01-02 WORKSURFACE TOP HAT

RE: Rename parts

Looks like a fair bit of CTL+C & CTL+V, unless you can do it in VB.
I know it's possible in VB, because at a previous job we had a routine for doing it. Unfortunately I can't get the prog for you sad

RE: Rename parts

Hi,

don't know which version you're running and when this feature
has been introduced:

- Tools --> Options --> Manage
the formula field may be used for this. The information, however
must be available as variable(s) within the file properties
When a variable is empty its name will be shown.
