using 2014 or 7075 aluminium for pressure vessel part

using 2014 or 7075 aluminium for pressure vessel part

Hello,

I'm currently required to check a pressure vessel according to ASME VIII-I.

There is a part made of aluminium. I wanted to use a SB-209 A96061 T651 (in the Section II) but I've been asked to use a 2014 or 7075 aluminium (not in Section II).

Can I calculate the allowables based on tensile and yield strength (I have the ASM International Aluminium and aluminium alloys handbook), and will this enable me to justify my calculation according to ASME VIII-I?

Yours truly,

jte

thank you for your answer. I thought it was the answer I would receive.

Since the materials 2014 and 7075 are in the ASME Section II part B, specification SB-209 (identical with ASTM spec. B 209-04), would the only way to be able to use this materials for ASME VIII-I compliance, to follow the part D appendix 5?

yours truly.

As far as I know, yes. I'm sure metengr will chime in if I'm mis-stating something.
