I am doing some experiments  on a rotating disk. 50-500 RPM. I  am using a low power Maxon brush motor 0.75 w to drive system. Characteristics I want are low speed, low MI, steady torque.  I wish to induce load on disk and observe power consumed by motor and speed change.

I am finding it difficult get low speed and the current to the  motor is intermittent due to the commutation.  

Don't want to use gearing or step down transmission. Servo would give good speed control but on such a small system it may be difficult to monitor power consumption. Stepper would not be smooth.

Would there be a very small AC motor available. I could use an inverter to control speed.  LP turntables use low speed direct drive motors. something similar might be hhe job

You know they have been making these devices for about 80 years right? I have about 800 electromechanical watt hour meters.
