I have an assembly in which I created and saved the view of an explosion.  When I enter the drafting application in that assembly I can place the exploded view with no problems.  But when I am in a different drafting assembly and insert the view from part, the saved explosion view shows up in the dropdown list of views but when I select that view and place it, the view comes in unexploded.  Any idea why?  NX 5.0.4.

That is a known problem which is being addressed in NX 6, but which the fix for will probably not be released until the first full maintenance release.
