ACI 318 App D - anchor effective depth limit?
ACI 318 App D - anchor effective depth limit?
(OP)
We typically have very high loads and per our company standards, this ends up requiring longer than typical embedment depths for anchor bolts/rods.
I'm using 318-02 for a design right now, and D.5.2.2 gives the equations for breakout strength, but only provides equations for up to 25" embedment, which according to the commentary was the limit in their testing.
Can I assume (always a risk) that the equation is acceptable for embedments greater than this? ie 30" or even more?

"The limits on length and diameter are simply due to the limits on the test database. There is likely no performance problem associated with using the method for the design of deeper embedments, it's just that you will be on your own code-wise in making this judgment".

Anyway the limit of 635mm (get with metric, this is the Century of the Fruit Bat) applies to equation D-8, not D-7. [or did I miss something]
I use ACI318M-05.
