How to model a tension wire rope in RAM ADVANSE. ?

RE: wire rope in RAM ADVANSE

model the member as tension only and use A36 (weightless) as the material.
The tension only is included in the member tab - I believe in the hinges portion of the member tab.
The material selection is also under the member tab.
This will give you the analysis results.  You'll have to play with the section for design or maybe design by hand based on the analysis if you need a different steel strength.  A36 is the only weightless option in RAM Advanse.

RE: wire rope in RAM ADVANSE

StructuralEIT - does the method you describe take into account that the wire rope's stress-strain slope is far flatter than solid steel?  This could greatly affect your analysis results, especially your deflections...

If you "heard" it on the internet, it's guilty until proven innocent. - DCS

RE: wire rope in RAM ADVANSE

You can't adjust E in RAM Advanse, therefore you will have to use an appropriate section of some area such that Esteel*Afictitious = Erope*Aactual.

RE: wire rope in RAM ADVANSE

I agree with EIT, except you CAN adjust E in RAM Advanse.   Just go to the materials database under the configuration menu and create your own material with whatever E value you want.

Nice!

RE: wire rope in RAM ADVANSE

LowLax - Regarding that RA do not design ropes (steel or fiber), what would be your advise to define a steel wire rope, the material would be STEEL or OTHER and it would have weigth or it would be weigthless...
