Coatings vs H2S

Coatings vs H2S

(OP)
Greetings

I'd like to know if any of you has had some experience, tryin' to get an appropriate coating that can inhibit this kind of aggressive environment inside oil storage tanks based on carbon structural steel places (ASTM A-36). Any answer or suggestion is welcome

Thanks in advance.

RE: Coatings vs H2S

SaKaZu,
There are many experienced engineers on this forum able to give you advice on the subject of equipment protection operating in sour service. Yes, there are protection systems available for the oil storage tanks in Sour Service.
However, there is not one blanket solution for all the service conditions. I suggest you to read NACE MR0175 and NACE MR0103 to determine first wich standard applies to your condition, based on the process fluid chemical composition, pressure and temperature. Then you may ask specific questions regarding the suitability of the A36 to your application, methods of protection and perhaps ask for alternative suggestions already applied successfully in the field by members of the forum.
Good luck,

Polyurea has outstanding qualities, and as per gr2vessels you will need to know the composition etc. cheers

Hi.

Generally, saekaphen phenolics, epoxy phenolics and epoxies will serve you well.  Check out Heresite Protective Coatings, using this link: http://www.heresite.com

Consider, too, Plasite-Carboline: http://www.plasite.com.

Both, in my opinion, are leaders in the industry.

For more information on corrosion resistant coatings, just see: <a href="http://www.industrialcoatingsworld.com/Corrosion-Resistant-Coatings/index.html">Corrosion Resistant Coatings</a>

Good luck!

Whatever recommendation is given make sure that it is backed up by qualification test data.  NORSOK M-501 gives guidance on the qualification test requirements. Also consult API RP 652.

RE: Coatings vs H2S

Nace norms (MR0175) are saying that coatings are not satisfying to serve as corrosion inhibitors...
