Estimating thermal properties of materia of insulation

Estimating thermal properties of materia of insulation

Estimating thermal properties of materia of insulation

(OP)
Dear All

I am planing to insulate the air duct serving a drying cabinet in my plant.

Surrounding temp = 22degC
Air temp at dehumidifier = 36degC
Air temp at drying cabinet = 28.5degC
Temp drop along the duct = 7.5degC

How could I do simple calculation to estimate heat transfer coefficient of the insulating material to be used?

RE: Estimating thermal properties of materia of insulation

You've gotten one part of the problem, which is the allowable temperature drop.  The next things you need are a relatively accurate determination of the surface area of the duct, the airflow within the duct, and the type of airflow around the duct.  The latter will determine the surface-to-air heat transfer coefficient.  The airflow and temperature drop will determine the amount of actual heat energy loss incurred per unit time.

Then, the standard equation of Q = A*htc*deltaT is solved for the htc, and you can then look at various materials' properties and choose an appropriate one.
