Would HF alkyl systems be a typical example of Class M piping?  And if you determined that Class M is appropriate, would you continue that through the RV/Flare system?

RE: Class M piping

Model57,

Think the answer is "No".
You must be refering to ASME B31.3 Process piping code fluid service 'Category M' piping.
The 'Owner' is the decison maker for designation 'Category M'.
You want to do a good design and installation for HF, but the 'Category M' does not necessarily provide you with all the measures for a robust tight system.  There are a number of engineered safeguarding design features to consider for HF alkylation systems, without using the requirements designated for the 'Category M' fluid service.

Thanks.  I agree the Operator determines if Class M is appropriate.

However, if HF does not fit the B31.3 Appendix M flow chart, then in your opinion what does?  HCN?  TiCl?

Does the industry typically not apply Class M requirements to HF?

I'm also looking into API 751 guidelines next week.
