max. possible signal frequency

max. possible signal frequency

(OP)
Hello,
I am designing a Matlab/Simulink based real time application for measuring the machine position using linear encoders.
My system will include the following components:

•    Linear encoders
•    Interface electronics (delivering 2 - 20 MHz, 5V TTL
        signal,)
•    Matlab XPC Target compatible counter board.
•    Matlab XPC Target (Real time)

As Matlab may not be able to handle the high frequency signal (frequency 2 - 20 MHz) in real time. Thus counter board is used. After counter operation the signal should be read in Simulink.
My question is what would be the capacity (frequency limit) of Matlab/Simulink to read and work with the signal after counting operation?
Are there some feasibility/incompatibility issues related to using Matlab for such an application?
I will be thankful for any assistance.
Regards
simrs
