bolt material

(OP)
hie,
for our project, we had asked bolt material as ASTM A194Gr4M. but vendor has quoted for ASTM A194Gr7M.
Can anyone guide, whether this material is acceptable in leiu of ASTM A194Gr4m.?
Also guide what would be the impact test requirements?

thanks
Bagul

RE: bolt material

bagul703,
ASTM A194 is the standard for nuts, not for bolts. There is no grade 4M, only grade 4 or grade 7M, if you have to have the "M" included in the grade. Please review the ASTM A194 specification for nuts and the specification ASTM A193 for bolts.
Many people on this forum can guide you in the selection of the bolts and nuts, provided that you would detail the application, environment, service conditions for these fasteners. Please provide details.
cheers,
gr2vessels
