I need to protect a target pcb from damage from voltage/current spikes coming from a testing unit. Any ideas of how I would go about this?

RE: protecting from voltage and current spikes

What kind of voltage / current spikes?

transient, as well as more permanent problems such as shorts in the tester unit... board is runing on 3V logic and I don't want that to ever be exceeded.

RE: protecting from voltage and current spikes

You need a new tester, period.

Trying to insulate your device from your tester's potential to damage is simply a poor allocation of resources, in addition to potentially obscuring the actual performance of your system under test.
