Hole pattern dissappearing

Hole pattern dissappearing

Hole pattern dissappearing

(OP)
Hello all,
I am trying to insert a circular pattern of a tapped hole under the assembly feature option but for some reason it is only patterning the dashed line for the threaded hole.  I am using SW 2007 sp5.0.

Thanks in advance,
BB

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

Are the blocks exactly the same height?

Maybe try to pattern the blocks and the tapped hole in the same pattern.

cheers

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

Are the blocks in different config's? I would do the same as CBL's suggestion, pattern the holes and blocks together.

The blocks are all identical and installed in the welding operation (all same height as well).  The holes are done in the next step when the welded assembly is put into the lathe.           I am trying to keep it acurate for each step of the process.

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

Do a section across the patterned hole to see if the hole exists below the top surface of the block?

cheers

... or just switch to wireframe view.

CBL - The hole does NOT show up in the section view.

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

Make sure 'all' of the hole features are selected for the pattern.

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

Can you explain, step by step, how you are creating and patterning the tapped hole?

Or just zip and upload the files for review?

cheers

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

Check your feature scope maybe?

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

Yes, select the All Components option in the Feature Scope section of the assembly feature seed hole.

Or use the Selected components option but make sure you select all the blocks.

Neither of these settings make sense to me though, because when the feature scope is set, the hole pattern does not exist.

Handleman - You fixed it, thanks very much.  Thanks to all who suggested possible solutions.

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

CBL,
Here's how to re-create this issue.  Don't forget step 3.  It's most important.

1. Create a multibody part.
2. Create assembly feature on said part
3. Say "Oh crap, this isn't actually multibody because I forgot to clear the "Merge result" checkbox."
4. Edit part and clear the "Merge result" checkbox
5. Say "Oh crap, where did my holes go?"

I'm pretty much an expert at step 3.  smile

RE: Hole pattern dissappearing

lol Thanks handleman. I also re-created the problem using an assy.

I find it strange though that the Feature Scope needs to be set at the placement of the seed assy hole feature ... before the assy hole pattern is placed. The Cosmetic thread is patterned correctly without need of the scope, so why not the hole itself?

cheers
