ACI-318-05 appendix D

ACI-318-05 appendix D

ACI-318-05 appendix D

(OP)

 Hi friends ,

 I am new structural engineer in the firm.  I  was told  to read the latest code ACI-318-05 for anchorage(Appendix D). I will appriciate if some body can tell me  difference in the design for cast in place anchors and post installed anchors.

1.0 Concrete break strength of anchor in tension

         Kc=24 for cast in place anchors
         Kc=17 for post installed anchors

2.0 modification for caracking at service load.
         Ycn=1.25 cast in place anchors
         ycn=1.4  post installed anchors

are these the only two difference in design.I will appreciate if somebody can tell me  source of some solved example for cast in place anchors.

Thanks in advance

RE: ACI-318-05 appendix D

I'm not sure those are the only two differences or not.  You just need to follow the factors and determine which ones have adjustments for cast-in-place or post installed. For instance, there are different Strength Reduction Factors for cast-in-place vs. post installed anchors.
But for worked out examples, get the "Notes on ACI 318-02 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete" by PCA.  There might be later editions available.

RE: ACI-318-05 appendix D

Biggest difference is that you will need specific design information from the anchor mfg.  For instance, pull out for a post installed anchor cannot be calculated from ACI 318 App. D, you will need to pull the products ICC-ESR report for that information.  Talk to your mfg engineer, I am sure they will be happy to help you out with design information on anchorage design.

RE: ACI-318-05 appendix D

I think its just the way how it is installed in actual condition and has nothing to do with your calculation. These values came from tests.
