Pile Soil Spring Constant

Pile Soil Spring Constant

Pile Soil Spring Constant

(OP)
Currently I'm using StaadPro to model pile foundation. Hence, I am required to apply spring constants along the pile length.

Given a site condition of soft clay overlay of 30m, what will be the formula to be used to calculate the spring constant values.

Further to the above, what is the difference between soil modulus and soil modulus of variation?

Thanks

RE: Pile Soil Spring Constant

I suggest that you take a look at API recommended spring constants (p-y, q-z, ...). I think these properties are the common practice although recent CALTRANS research has shown that depending on the pile boundary conditions, the API lateral spring (p-y) capacities may be conservative.
