poly propylene

poly propylene

poly propylene

(OP)
Hello...Everybody...

The polypropylene is one of the product which is produced by polymerization process (loacated in downstream of refinery process units )  in fludized bed reactor by using propylene is main raw material which comes from refinery. This propylene is predominantly comes from FCC & it is recovered in propylene recovery unit & then after it is being send to Poly propylene plant for PP manufacturing.

What could be possible causes which can lead to bad smell in PP product?

Thanking you...

With warm regards,

RE: poly propylene

PP should not smell at all. The additive in it can though. Main suspects include antioxidants, especially those containing sulfur and nucleating agents.

There is not any memory with less satisfaction than the memory of some temptation we resisted.

Just to give insight into,Propylene ( mainly from FCC & small part Coker LPG ) from propylene recovery unit passes through treatment process through regenerative and non regenerative type catalyst/adsorbents which convert upstream sulfur impurities those come as part of refinery processes like CS2,COS,H2S,H2O,DMDS etc.

The outlet of treaters goes to PP unit as raw material. Now COS & CS2 varies from 0 – 10 ppm in the outlet of treater which goes to PP unit.Laboratery analysis for all these outlet sulfur species on daily basis is not being done.Up to what extent this CS2 & CO2 can affect the bad PP odor. Does As/Ph also affect to PP odor, if yes what should be their limit in propylene feed to PP manufacturing.

RE: poly propylene

if pp contain co2,cos etc... whether influrence the polymer clarity or not?
as to  modify pp,specially pp that use in food package or medical package, the clarity of polyproplene is important.
