Additional text added to BOM

Additional text added to BOM

Additional text added to BOM

(OP)
Is there a way to add additional text to a SW BOM cell and keep it smart, similar to adding additional text to a dimension (ex.  <DIM> SEE NOTE 3 )?

I know I can override the value but it loses its "smarts". I would like for my QTY column in my BOM to read the true quantity but appear as "10 (SEE NOTE 3)" by adding additional text.

Thanks in advance,
RacingD

RE: Additional text added to BOM

Not that I know of.

You could add a "Comments" column beside the QTY column.

cheers

RE: Additional text added to BOM

In 2008, if the said BOM column is linked to a custom property, you can choose to "Keep Link" when editing the BOM. It then updates the property with whatever you type. Unfortunately, I don't think QTY is one of those column types.

RE: Additional text added to BOM

Other options that involve less butchery of both BOM and existing standards and sensibilities:
  • Put a note next to the BOM line
  • Put a note next to the baloon (and use "Group" to keep them together)
  • A note with an arrow connected to the appropriate component
  • Don't let incompetent people who don't read drawing notes work on your stuff
