Tracking Projects by Dollars Spent

Tracking Projects by Dollars Spent

Tracking Projects by Dollars Spent

(OP)
I am trying to track a project by dollars spent and I can't seem to figure out how to do this in project.

Here are the details...

Each project has a certain amount of money that I can spend.
I have several people that can work on the different projects.
Each individual has a different rate (I think I've figured this out)
Each project has a firm deadline by which it must end.
I basically want to make sure that the projects are adequately staffed so the projects are not overspent or underspent.

If anyone could give me some high level direction on how to set this up or where to get started I would greatly appreciate it.  I have used MSP a little to track tasks in a single project but I haven't done anything that is budget/man-hours driven.

Thanks

RE: Tracking Projects by Dollars Spent

I would suggest using Budget Resources (available in MSP 2007) for allocating budgets for each project. For the firm deadline  you should use deadline property of task that is the last milestone of the project. For tracking budget usage you can use graphical reporting to be able to compate budgeted vs. planned vs. actual work and costs.

I found the budget resource after some searching.  That's going to be very helpful setting up the initial labor budget and tracking the budget through the project.

I will look into the deadline now.

Thanks,
J
