insertion of compliant pin analysis
insertion of compliant pin analysis
(OP)
Hello.
For DesignStar/Cosmos 2007:
inserting hollowed tapered pin in the hole - any suggestion how to model it in my FEA package?
Need to account for plastic deformation of pin as well as for work-hardening of pin material.
Hence- main questions: how to apply load to account for gradual force propagation along tapered pin face?
Thank you.

RE: insertion of compliant pin analysis
This sounds like a 3-D contact simulation model with non-linear materials. You model the geometry and place contact surfaces between the inside diameter of the hole and the outside diameter of the pin. Input material properties for your pin in a non-linear material model so that you can account for the work hardening. It isn't too difficult, but I have to agree with Greg that a hand calculation is sometimes just easier...
