Hi all

I'm in desperate need of some help and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

for many years now we have produced splined shafts using DIN5480 W37x1.44x30x24x8f without any problems. However, we have just sent a drawing for some new shafts to be made (still using this DIN standard) and we are being told the 1.44 module is not standard to DIN5480 and that they are unable to make them.

Does this make sense to anyone as I'm confused?

I have heard of 1/4 incremental modules like
1.25 and 1.50.  I have not seen a 1.44 module either.
Is it really a 1.50 module with a profile shift?
If you have the spec for this, someone can make it
for you to that spec.

Your manufacturer is correct; DIN5480 does not use this pitch. The range goes 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.25, 1.50, 2.0 etc.
In fact I know of no metric spline standards which use this pitch: DIN 5480, DIN 5482, JIS B1603, JIS D2001 or ANSI Metric edition.
What you have is a "special" so tooling would have to be specifically produced for this pitch.
How is it you've been able to produce the shafts in the past, "many years without any problems" and now there is a problem? Can't you just keep producing them the way you have been. Can't your supplier continue using the same tooling on the new shafts?
dimjim might be on the right track. Perhaps the pitch was originally calculated (from measurements taken of a sample) by using the major external diameter and the number of teeth. If the profile has a plus or minus correction then this will change the diameter from standard. If the number of teeth + 1 is divided into this corrected diameter you will end up calculating the incorrect pitch.
