menu bar toggling is painfully slow, am i the only one?

menu bar toggling is painfully slow, am i the only one?

(OP)
When I move my curser over the SW logo in top left corner, then to the right from that to get the icons to toggle to the menu drop downs, I get a 5 to 60 second delay until the drop downs show up, then if I move it from one drop down (FILE for example), to another (view for example), it lags even more.  Is there a way to either eliminate this lagging, or move this icon bar elsewhere, and just use the menu bar the way it's always worked prior to 2008. I like the icons, and use the drop downs also.  I want the best of both worlds.  My sw sales force told me to uninstall, clear out the registry of any 2007 references, and then reinstall 2008, but that didnt work, and my video card drivers are current.

RE: menu bar toggling is painfully slow, am i the only one?

The MS mouse Intellipoint software is known to cause this behaviour. I was experiencing this problem and had uninstalled Intellipoint and used a different mouse. Just yesterday I downloaded the latest Intellipoint software and went back to my Trackball Explorer and have had no problems so far.

cheers

I'm still having this problem.  I've updated the video drivers, and dont have intellipoint loaded on this machine.  Also, when I hit the open button or the open from the drop down list, or when I use the insert/browse command, there's a huge lag.  Has anyone experienced this?  Or have any more ideas on a fix for it.
I'm running SW2008. sp4.

And speaking of dual processor...When SW is running some heavy calculations like a major surface cutting/cavity operation, and maxes out the memory and processor, the task manager, under processes tab/CPU only registers at 50.  Does this make sense?  I would think it should be able to use more than that.  Is it only using one processor?

Yes, the processor registering at 50% makes sense as only one processor (1/2 of what you have) is being used up. Aside from COSMOS and Rendering, SolidWorks doesn't take advantage of multi-threading.

I had an M90...check the Dell website for a BIOS upgrade. Also, as far as your video drivers are concerned, make sure you're using the approved driver from SolidWorks and not the latest driver from Dell. They can be two different creatures.

Until you find out what is causing this long lag time, you could pin it with that thumb tack icon so that menu is always showing.    Can you update to the latest service pack?

Ive upgraded to service pack 4.  I think that's the latest.

Thanks smcadman.  I never realized I could separate them.  I did it yesterday, and it makes it much quicker.  You win the golden Cupie doll!
