Solidworks Search

(OP)
Hi,

For some reason I cant find the solidowrks search assistant on my screen. It is generally located on the right hand top corner of the screen.

Can somebody tell me how to bring this tool back in place.

I use a SW2007 on a windows xp

Thanks
Mohan

RE: Solidworks Search

If "desktop search" has been removed from your computer you cant see "search assistant".
Check "desktop search".

thanks for this info.

RE: Solidworks Search

Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services to control the status of Windows Search. The Indexing Service can also be started and stopped from here.

cheers

RE: Solidworks Search

In regards to the search tool:

I cannot get my search to read into the description fields. It finds the parts just fine in our design library but we cannot search by the description. Anyone know what be causing this?

RE: Solidworks Search

I might need to clarify some things a bit:

The files in our design library are saved as our internal part numbers for the file name. These files can be electrical connectors or specialty mechanical hardware that is not available with the toolbox.

We also have internal descriptions for these parts and when typing a value in the search using the keyword "Description:" it will not come up with any results. I know that the value I am typing afterwards can be found in the description of that component but for some reason it cannot find it. My VAR told me after much fooling around that we should load 2008 and see if the search tool works there. He said there might be a bug in the 2007 version but could not say for sure.

The thing is if it works in 2008 that's great but we can't use it because our company has elected to use Windchill as our main PLM software. Windchill has not developed a add-in for the 2008 release so until then we are stuck in the stone age.(I know it is a Pro-E product, Don't get me started; I had nothing to do with the decision) If I had any say we would have used PDMWorks Enterprise or SmartTeam or something else that plays nice with SolidWorks.
