Offset feature Dim Display
Offset feature Dim Display
(OP)
Good morning all,
I'm fairly new to SW (2007 SP4)
I have a back ground of Proe, and like to produce models with dimensions that i can stick straight into the drawing.
My problem is when i produce a shaft with different dias, i create it with offset cuts, but these offset dimensions dont display. I want to add these dims to a design table, but cant find them anywhere. They dont even show on the drawing when i show "Model Items"
Can anyone show me the way to display these?
Thanks in advance.
Mark

RE: Offset feature Dim Display
There are a few features in SW that don't have any displayed dimension you can access. If I understand right, you have found one of them - extruding offset from the sketch plane. A couple others are the "move face" command and any of the "move/copy" body commands.
Have you considered modeling your shafts (and indeed any round/lathe parts) with revolve features rather than extrudes?

Bit of a shame, has anyone found these dims?
RE: Offset feature Dim Display
What do you mean? It sounds like you might create a 2" diameter shaft, and if you want a 1 1/2" diameter shaft, you offset the circle by 1/4" and extrude cut, is that correct?
If that is the case, why not simply make the dims configurations specific and change the diameter of the 2" to 1 1/2" and you do not need to ad the cut feature.

RE: Offset feature Dim Display
The problem being that the value of offset doesnt show, only when you edit the feature, so it cannot be used in a design table.
I have used a revolved cut now, i would prefer not too as there is alot less to go wrong with sketching one circle and extruding a cut than sketching multipul lines to revolve.
A matter of preference i suppose?!?
