assembly sections
assembly sections
(OP)
hello
i would like to know if we can split up an assembly into severla parts so that we can make less number of parts.
i mean to say that i have created a airplane outer geometry by assembling 10 partdrawings. now i want to manufacture the same. instead of manufacturing 10 parts, i would like to split the assemply into three parts and manufacture the same. this is just a small model.
i would even like to know if i can scale down the model in the assmbly mode and create a STL file to manufacture the same. i know that we can do scaling by parameterising. but since i have not parameterised the dimensions. i would like to know if i can do this automatically after having assembled the parts
Your help in this regards will be highly helpful
thanking you

RE: assembly sections
From an assy you can select parts and separate them into subassy's, or just use the parts separately.
Do you have a pic to show?

thsi is my image file....
i have created this assembly by creating 10parts.., the fueslage itself is made up of five parts. now instead of manufacturing five parts i would like to divide this assembly into two - three parta. so is it possible to either make parts or sub assemblies at desired sections or do i have make it only from the existing parts
RE: assembly sections
I suspect you are going to throw this into some kinda of rapid prototype machine. Are you doing aerodynamic airflow studies or what?
I would create a series of assembly cuts to cut away your model the way you want to break down the pieces for manufacture. Use configurations to supress/unsupress the various cuts and export out to STL for the RP machine.

RE: assembly sections
thats a right guess anna..
i am planning to calculate the aerodynamic properties for this airplane.
i didnt clearly understand.
do u think i can create section cuts in the assembly drawing and export it to stl file for the prototype or do i have to make series of assembly drwaings from the exsisting parts.
can u kindly explain me
thanking you

RE: assembly sections
Do assembly cut extrudes to break up your model, add configurations to control which assembly cuts are unsupressed.
For each configuration of the assembly that is unsupressed do your file save as to an stl file.
Then take those individual stl files to your rp machine.
You do not need a drawing at all to get what you need.
