Building vertical loads
Building vertical loads
(OP)
I am designing a shallow cut and cover tunnel. The roof slab will have to support a few building. Could building engineers advise what are the typical vertical area loads per floor of concrete or steel frame buildings? Appreciate your help!

10" slab = 125psf
partitions/services = 20psf
live load = 50psf
Allow for external brick walls = 80psf
Total = 275psf per floor.
I would advise you to put a note on your drawings saying what load you have allowed for as it is possible for building loads to exceed these (though unlikely)
Light framing could be half this value.

yakpol, that was for a typical domestic/office building. Other uses may have a bigger live and dead load.
