SW versus BW cost

SW versus BW cost

SW versus BW cost

(OP)
If I have a 2" S-160 A312-304L pipe does anyone have the actual of relative installed cost difference between a socket weld ell or a butt weld elbow

A182F316L CL 6000 90 deg elbow + 2 socket welds or
A403WP304L S-160 90 deg elbow + 2 butt welds

while I am at it, would the cost for S-80 and CL3000 fittings be much less?

thanks
Mark

RE: SW versus BW cost

That may not be the only consideration.

The engineer may want to avoid the SW elbow due to the higher SIF.

RE: SW versus BW cost

pipe..

Welders in the field do not like small, butt-welded things.

Socket (fillet) welded piping components are much easier and usually cheaper. Virtually all welders on a crew are qualified to perform socket welds, fewer are certified to perform butt welds.

When a root purge gas is involved, (like is required for SS pipe for example..) it gets more complicated.

My opinion only
