Welding Code for Stainless Steel Sheet Metal

Welding Code for Stainless Steel Sheet Metal

Welding Code for Stainless Steel Sheet Metal

(OP)
I am interested to learn more about continuous welding code for stainless steel sheet metal.  Where could I buy or obtain these codes via the interenet? Thanks in advance

RE: Welding Code for Stainless Steel Sheet Metal

Usually the welding code is dictated by the end use of the produce, such as boilers (ASME), or airplane parts (D17.1), but for a general code that addresse stainless steel and sheet, a good staring point is AWS B2.1.

RE: Welding Code for Stainless Steel Sheet Metal

AWS B2.1 is not a code, it is primarily a standard for qualifying welding procedures and welders.

AWS D1.6 is the structural welding code for stainless steel, but it is for materials 1/8 inch or thicker.

If I remember correctly, the structural sheet metal code is primarily for carbon steel. I have a copy around here somewhere, the the devil is trying to locate it.

RE: Welding Code for Stainless Steel Sheet Metal

Al,
Good point about the "Code".  However, depending on the thicknesses being used, D1.6 could be applicable as it goes down to 1/16" (2mm) or 16 gage.
