Solid edge data importing to SW

Solid edge data importing to SW

Solid edge data importing to SW

(OP)
Hi all
The company i work for is doing the switch from SE to SW, due to other parts of the group using SW.
Importing the modle is no problem, however, is it possible to import modle data, such as document name etc.
Thanks

RE: Solid edge data importing to SW

I do not believe the SE model's Custom Properties can be imported directly.

However if you still have access to SE you might be able to open the file in both SE and SW, and copy and paste.

Another alternative; you be able to modify the Copy Custom Info macro from http://www.esoxrepublic.com/freeware/index.html to be able to read from SE and write to SW.

cheers

RE: Solid edge data importing to SW

Solid Edge has Property Manager which will tabulate all the properties for you - if Solid Works has something similar you may be able to copy/paste from one to the other, or do it via an Excel spreadsheet.
(Pity about the changeover though !!)

RE: Solid edge data importing to SW

SW can write properties via API (macros).  If SE has API documentation, you could write a macro that reads properties from SE file and writes to SW file.  If SE file's properties are like SW's, you can read the properties without having the SE application running using DSOfile.

RE: Solid edge data importing to SW

Post a couple samples of your SE files that have properties you want to copy.  I'll see if I can access the properties via API.

Thanks all for your responce.
SE property manager is great for accessing data, cant see a similar feature on works though. At worst we would cut & paste, but with the scale of drawing data involved, the slicker (& most fool proof), the better.
The API macro sounds interesting - Roland, u have pm.

Beachcomber, it is a pity about the change.  SE has been a good tool to us over the years, lets hope SW does the same.

RE: Solid edge data importing to SW

I can't do anything without a SolidEdge sample file or three.  Preferably at least one of each type (drawing assembly, part).  Zip and post some samples.  If confidentiality is an issue, perhaps just whip up someting representative.  Post using eng-tips attachment upload.
