Cut like machine tool
Cut like machine tool
(OP)
Is there a way in proE to revolve a cylinder with it's axis perpendicular to the part axis (which is cylindrical) to create a cut in the part (i.e. simulate a machine cut using a minimaster cutting tool)?
This has been covered somewhat in thread554-112447: Assembly Cut using feature but I find it very difficult to believe I have to go into assembly mode to do this.
I've attached a pic to show in better detail what I need to accomplish.
Thanks in advance.

Basically, I need to be able to take the shape of a solid, sweep it along a path, and do the cut.
I've included a better picture to explain this. I realize this could likely be done in 2-3 steps, but I was hoping for 1.
Thanks.

Remember that I want the cut to start and end with the 'round' surface geometry of the cylinder doing the cut - much like a minimill would do if rotating perpendicular about the axis of the part. And I want the remaining 'key' feature to be of a fixed size.
So here's what I came up with in 3 steps.
It'll do for now... (pic)

Repeat as necessary for subsequent "mill" cuts.

That was as close as I could come too... but the regen time burned up my model and it melted like butter...

Yea, having like 1000 patterned features just for a keyed shaft seems like overkill, and will definitely bloat a model.

If you find a way, please share it.
This needs to be on a PTC 'wish list'.
