Solidworks screen becomes distorted in sketch mode

Solidworks screen becomes distorted in sketch mode

Solidworks screen becomes distorted in sketch mode

(OP)
Hello, recently our corporate IT upgraded us from Solidworks 2007 to Solidworks 2008 sp0.  I have 2 PCs with the same build (specs below) that are having an issue when you go to sketch.  When you click on the drawing, the view screen becomes distorted.  I have downloaded the recommended driver for the video card and this problem occurs even after completely reformatting the 2 machines.

We have found a temporary fix.  If you click the maximize button twice (to shrink the window, then back to full), the display clears and then the problem does not happen in that drawing again.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

RE: Solidworks screen becomes distorted in sketch mode

I would suggest updating to SP3.1 before trying anything else.

Was the AV disabled during the SW installation?

Did IT do a clean install of SW08?  i.e. Did they remove all traces of SW07?

cheers

Your graphics card appears to be supported.  Could you take a screenshot of what you a re describing and post if for us?

While the card may be supported, the supported driver version may have changed between 2007 and 2008.  SolidWorks has a page listing compatible SW versions, card and driver combinations.  Getting set up with the correct driver will most likely solve your problem.

Upgrading to SP3.1 of SolidWorks as suggested by CBL is a good idea even if changing the drivers fixes your current problem.

One thing to keep in mind:
Branded computers (HP, Dell, etc) will sometimes use a different driver than the one for the card manufacturer. When you go to the graphic driver page, choose 'HP', then look for your card and driver. Don't choose 'ATI' as the manufacturer.

Hello, thanks for all the replies.  Some answers top each.  I am local IT working with the drafters using the PCs.  I can’t upgrade the service packs as corporate IT wants everyone to be running the same thing.  We don’t know why they released it with sp0 either.

I have tried using the HP drivers for the PC, but I get the same type of problem.

RE: Solidworks screen becomes distorted in sketch mode

When you upgraded from '07 to '08, did you do a clean install? Meaning, did you remove SolidWorks and the info in the registry? When you installed the new drivers, did you uninstall the old one first? Your issue is definitely graphics related. You might want to capture an Rx and send it to your VAR so they can send it to SolidWorks.

I don't know why you would want to change anything.  The screen is kind of soothing...smile

Is this happening just in sketch edit mode?  Is this on parts only, or is it happening on assemblies as well?  Have you tried changing your background image?

There was a note attached to your card on the SW website, have you checked the 3Gig switch?
