3d sketch extrude

I have curves from a part that I have converted to a 3d sketch. I need to extrude a solid to cut from my part(machine run-off). I have tried to Cut-Sweep, and follow a path. I can't get much to work. Thanks in advance

RE: 3d sketch extrude

Could your post the part?  Have you tried "Check Sketch for Feature" yet?

It is a 3d sketch. That option is "grayed out" in the menu. I'm not sure how to post a pic on here. I have tried.

Are you able to offset that same 3d sketch?

RE: 3d sketch extrude

The sketch elements do not appear to be contiguous. The line at the top is not connected.

The Path and Profile have to be separate sketches.

cheers

RE: 3d sketch extrude

You can not extrude a 3D sketch.

You could make a 2D sketch and use convert entities to copy elements of your 3D sketch.

RE: 3d sketch extrude

Tick,  You CAN extrude a 3D sketch.  You just need to define a direction.

RE: 3d sketch extrude

I didn't know that.  Just tried it in SW2007.  When did this start?

RE: 3d sketch extrude

Tick,

I'm still on 2005 and I can extrude a 3D sketch, at least the command is available.  It doesn't seem to be very robust though, most tries ended in "Unable to create this feature due to geometric conditions".
It appears this command has been available for years.

RE: 3d sketch extrude

I've never bothered. to try before.  Usually if I'm doing a 3D sketch it's because the geometry is in 3D and thus not extrudable.

RE: 3d sketch extrude

Just to be clear for our listeners at home, we are talking about EXTRUDED BOSSES here.  3d sweeps and lofts are pretty common especially in routing components.
