d/D Question for SIF Conservative

d/D Question for SIF Conservative

d/D Question for SIF Conservative

(OP)
Hello Everyone,

I am a new Pipe Stress Engineer in my Company. I want to ask about SIF in BRANCH to HEADER connection. According to ASME B31.3 Appendix D note (12) say that for 0.5 < d/D < 1.0 will be nonconservative SIF, but i also read at www.paulin.com, it is said there for Technical Paper about SIF Checklist:"When the branch diameter to header diameter (d/D) ratio is less than 0.5 SIFs used from B31 codes can be overly conservative.", so which one that we use as our basic to said that the SIF is conconservative? or can someone give me a range of number of a conservative SIF?
Thank you
