Hi,

Trying to make a bathroom scale with a tempered glass top, but unsure how to calculate the required thickness for four, five or more contact points. Please advice.

RE: thickness of tempered glass

use Roark to get an elastic stress and design accordingly.

RE: thickness of tempered glass

limit tensile stresses to less than 1000psi or the glass can unpredictably fail due to "static" fatigue (ie subcritical crack growth).  Your temper will make this difficult to calculate, but if you are selling this, you must do due dilligance.

be careful, glass does not like water (humiditiy included), beilieve it or not.
