Number of breaker operations possible...

Number of breaker operations possible...

(OP)
I am trying to find out what the typical number of open/close/open/close operations is possible for a high voltage circuit breaker (>69 kV).  Many of the higher voltage circuit breakers are blast type breakers and are limited to just a few operations until the compressor can recharge.  In my experience no more than four operations is the norm--what is the word on this from you folks?

Thanks!

RE: Number of breaker operations possible...

Refer to the manufacturer literature.  If there is an expected number of operations, it will be in there.

I seem to remember a certain make of hydraulically operated OCB that was expected to make three operations from fully charged if power to the pump was turned off, but it's been some years since I worked with that.  I twas in their literature, though.

RE: Number of breaker operations possible...

You might want to check the ANSI C37 standards - there may be some minimum requirements in there.

RE: Number of breaker operations possible...

Our 115 kV breakers range from open-close-open up to at least three cycles.  C37.04 has a table requiring various amounts of stored energy, depending on how long the charging time is.  It ranges from OCO for a 15 second recharge to five CO cycles if charging takes longer than 30 minutes.
