heat treatment oven

(OP)
i am attempting to build a heat treat oven and i am have some difficulties.

i am looking at it to be 13"^3 that can reach 1800 F. i found that Kanthal wire that can go up to 2300ish F, but it says not to use it in an area greater than 12."

should i need to worry about this?

and is there a good way to determine what temperature i will get inside the oven?

RE: heat treatment oven

1.  Buy a second hand ceramic kiln
2.  Get the Kanthal handbook
3.  wind your own elements using a 1/4" rod in a variable speed drill - wear leather gloves
4.  Ceramic kilns use cones - cone melts and shuts the oven off
5.  We used to use thermocouples and meters - not very accurate and the ends burned off the thermocouples.  Try an instrumentors supply somewhere.

Call if you have questions - We used about 15 of these for close to 20 years.
