Log Files? how do I change the save to location?

Log Files? how do I change the save to location?

Log Files? how do I change the save to location?

(OP)
Hi guys,

I was looking at the help files today and it seems as though you have to go into a config file and put a path in to change the save to path for log files; is this correct? If so where do I find this file?

Thanks for any insight on this!

RE: Log Files? how do I change the save to location?

Some log files are set in the ugii_env.dat file while others can be set in Customer Defaults (particularly simulation and analysis).

set the variable UGII_TMP_DIR to the directory you want to save the log files

Thanks guys!

RE: Log Files? how do I change the save to location?

Which log files? Do you know that there are several kinds and different ways. Is it the syslogs that you're after?

The translator log files if you're using translators in the session dialogs can usually be set to go wherever you direct them to and if you read the menu options you'll find those settings.

The ugii_env.dat and/or customer defaults may contain some options for default file locations as apply to some of the log files settings. Others have already mentioned that. Those setting include log files that UG creates when doing translations import/export if you like among other things, adn some of those as I mentioned can be overridden by the user.

There is indeed a UGII_TMP_DIR setting that I'm aware of. It used to be the case that temporary files were written in C:\TEMP or some such directory. These files include the syslog files that you may be concerned with. As of NX-5 I have noticed that they're now being written to;

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp

Lastly the license log file is written as set by the lmtools utility usually into the directory where NX is installed.

Hope you found what you were looking for...

Hudson
