Help with sketches.

Help with sketches.

Help with sketches.

(OP)
I have been using NX5 for about 2 hours now because I recently started a yo-yo company and need to make a cad of the yo-yo so it can be sent to a cnc shop to get manufactured. I used diffrent software to make a 2d outline of the yoyo and am wondering if I just sketch out the 2d drawing on this if I can change the view and then make all of the parts circular. It really isn't to incredibly hard compared to some of the things I've seen that were made on this. Please answer this as quickly as possible. Thanks - James

RE: Help with sketches.

James,

Sketch half the profile, and the centre axis then use the revolve function with the default 360 degrees to make a solid.

If you have different parts of the model shaft and two sides perhaps make each as a separate solid with individual sketches

best regards

Hudson

RE: Help with sketches.

There are probably many ways to do this...I'd imagine you could do a yo-yo (depending on the shape) without any sketches at all.  1 Cylinder and 1 Groove feature then Edge Blends to break the corners where needed and Mirror for the left or right side of the yo-yo.  See attached for a simple example in NX5 of what I think Hudson was referring to and another without sketches.  Be sure to turn all layers ON.

Usually there's more than one way to skin a cat in NX.  It's up to you to choose your preferred workflow.
