Using helicopters to build it, eh?
Can you imagine the lateral sway at the top.

The damping system will be intricate to control the sway! I cannot imagine the lift system! Parachutes in the event of a fire?

It's even got platforms for anti-aicraft emplacements!

Bet it will never be built though !
RE: Mile High Tower - Yikes!
Sway at top 2 to 3 m ? (6 to 10 feet)
Any other stabs ?
Still think its only a dream !

Well, at 5250 feet tall, and using a "standard" sway limit say of L/500, you get 10.5 feet like you suggested.
My coffee would certainly spill off my desk.
Features required near the top
Special coffee cup covers
Upchuck bags aligned along every hallway.
OSHA safety tie-off bars along the walls
Anti-sloshing baffles in each toilet
Extra wide urinals, for those who miss...
...or...belt tie-offs.
Rubber elevators
Dramamine pill dispensers
No wheels on any chairs
Tower-style computers no longer feasible - use flat desktop style
Everyone wears magnetic boots, football helmets, and shoulder pads.
No need to worry about pigeons roosting on the ledges.
and finally, the building may be designed not only for aircraft impact, but also satellite impact.

I see there is a picture of Goldie Hawn without the make up in there as well. Ages comes to us all I guess.

Never, but never question engineer's judgement

And do you realize that our friend and good buddy Saddam tried to rebuild the ancient city of Babylon on the original site prior to his demise? Apparently he didn't read or believe Biblical prophecy either.

"To resist the strong winds prevalent in the area and stop it swaying ........ it will be fitted with a giant computer-operated damper."
RE: Mile High Tower - Yikes!
I think these very very tall buildings, from an engineering standpoint, are very exciting. I think it is interesting to note the unique kinds of challenges that appear at different magnitudes of height that weren't realized with lower height buildings.
For example, for many years, many early skyscrapers (i.e. 10 stories) were built similar to the prevailing knowledge of the day.
Once buildings started getting a bit higher, the engineers suddenly realized that there was column shortening that had to be considered in getting the floor heights right.
I'm sure there are other "new" issues that developed at subsequent levels of height.
RE: Mile High Tower - Yikes!
My point being, do they plan to pressurize the upper floors? Or just let people deal with it? That could be an interesting challenge either way.
If they're smart, they'll put a special set of stairs in that building just so people can walk up for exercise. That would be pretty popular.

All jokes aside, the hotel in Dubai is amazing when you get into it and is worth the ticket price if you have to pay. - If you know a proud engineer in the area it can be free, easy and detailed. The total lack of symetry and repetition is a real engineering challenge.
Maybe the next is a high arch over the straits over the Straits of Hormuz.

There was 3 cars with some H section steel with the approximate dimensions of 24" deep with 3" or better flange and web thickness. There was also numerous cars of very thick plate in the range of 2" to 4".
On CNBC there have been several interviews of movers and shakers in that region and nearly all commented that you have seen the last of gigantic structures. The person behind the Dubai Tower said that he was just getting started.

What Impressed me was them still pumping concrete to 470+ meters, the 155th floor level and still going up.
RE: Mile High Tower - Yikes!
To minimize the construction problems, I would be more comfortable with aggregate storage, batching, mixing and storage at inermediate level(s).
I don't know what to do about prewetting the lightweight aggregate, but that could be pumped up to the storage to increase the moisture content/saturation at the same time before batching.

Folks joined the Mile High Club back in the 1960's all the time without leaving the ground...all with a little help from Timothy Leary.
RE: Mile High Tower - Yikes!
In the show they were pumping directly to the 155 floor. Concrete is only pumped poured at night. The commentator mentioned that it took 45 minutes for concrete to reach that level. He did mention that the mix was adjusted for pumping to the required height.
JAE,
The trip was alright but the landing was as in the parlance of a helicopter pilot "hard". Didn't take any trips but was around for few of the landings. I'll take stepping off an elevator on to carpeted landing any day.
