Contact - Post Processing

(OP)
Hi,

I have a simple contact problem. I have a 2-D model of a soft material in contact with a harder material. The harder material is constrained and the soft material has a body force and a velocity applied to it. I have defined the contact surfaces, developed the contact interaction with the master and slave surface, defined my interaction properties and included contact damping. The model runs fine and I have no convergence issues. So I assume I developed the contact correctly. I would expect to have normal and shear stresses. I included an output request for the frictional shear stress at the surfaces but I get results of zero? Any ideas why? I also tried a more simple model just applying a traction. Still no shear stresses produced.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

RE: Contact - Post Processing

Does your contact property definition include Tangential Behavior ?

RE: Contact - Post Processing

(OP)
Yes, I did included tangential behavior in my contact property. I had to of defined my contact incorrectly somewhere. I just can't seem to see where.

RE: Contact - Post Processing

I am presuming you can see other output variables such as CPRESS etc such that you know your bodies are contacting?

a quick guess could be that you assumed frictionless contact - hence no shear stress?

RE: Contact - Post Processing

(OP)
Yes, I do have CPRESS results. I also characterized the frictional behavior between the surfaces using a coefficient of friction. Could it be I do not have a large enough contact pressure?

RE: Contact - Post Processing

(OP)
I just reviewed my results again. I plotted the von mises stresses before but when I plotted CPRESS, I had values of zero. So I am not getting contact pressure between the surfaces. Now I am totally confused.

After making adjustments to the friction coefficient, I am finally getting results in the .dat file.
