Difference between Roll Tap and Normal Tap

Difference between Roll Tap and Normal Tap

Difference between Roll Tap and Normal Tap

(OP)
Can somebody tell me the difference between a Roll Tap and a normal Tap. Does a roll tap not produce swarf. I've read that somewehere but surely some swarf has to be present or else there would be no thread??

God bless,

Phil.

RE: Difference between Roll Tap and Normal Tap

A roll tap does not produce swarf.  It produces the thread by pushing some material in (to make the root/major diameter on an internal thread), which causes other material to flow out to make the crest/minor diameter.

Regards,

Cory
